Best Concealers | For Oily Skin

Long time, no see! I've been swamped with college work and that so I haven't had the chance to write up blog posts, unfortunately. I've also lost motivation to keep my blog up-and-going but my blog does keep me busy so I'm not slowly going insane. Anyways enough about me and my shenanigans, I'll get straight into this post!

So I have oily-combination skin which I freaking hate oh so much. I'm oily mostly in my t-zone but it's so bad, almost like an oil-slick (sexy, I know). Now, when I use concealer it does sometimes slip around or settle into my fine lines - I'm only 18 so what's up with my fine lines a.k.a wrinkles - so I do have to be picky (not that I'm not anyways) on which ones I use.

LA PRO Conceal saves my skin, seriously. It's thick enough to cover any imperfections and blend so well. There is quite a large colour range too which is pretty good as usually drugstores don't cater for super pale and super dark girls; it's as if they think everyone is olive-toned or something. A little definitely goes a long way with this, so this will definitely last a really long time. It doesn't crease or turn oily or slip anywhere; it stays put where you apply it to. Now, this is an American brand which isn't readily available to the UK but beautyjoint.com post to the UK and don't even charge customs, wooh. Be cautious though as the more you put into you basket, the higher the post and packaging become. What I like to do is buy 2-4 products every now and then as then the post and packaging won't be sky high.

Rimmel Wake Me Up is ridiculously liquid-y and has bits of glitter in it - so overuse can result in becoming a glitter-ball, such fun. Rimmel says it's full coverage and I say hell-to-the-no it's full coverage. The coverage is super lightweight but it does awaken the undereye area. The colour range isn't that large, yet again showing how drugstores think we're all bronze goddesses. I have hereditary dark circles (thanks mum and dad!) so I apply this generously and it lightens my undereyes whilst still looking natural and not ashy.

Soap and Glory's Kick-Ass Concealer is one I picked up because I have always wanted to purchase a Soap and Glory item and because Boots had a 3 for 2 going on - kudos to Boots for the clever marketing technique. Anyways this has three steps. Step one is to brighten your undereyes which this step definitely does, step two is a concealer which I use on top of the brightening one and step three is a translucent setting powder which is way too light for me. There is literally only two shades in the range: light and medium which is ridiculous as not everyone can purchase it. The powder, I use sparingly and it works fine for me. The concealer is so thick and covers up imperfections but is slightly too thick to blend. This does last all day on oily skin and the packaging with all the puns is a plus for me!

Spring Edit | Eye Looks

Spring has just began recently and the days have started to get slightly longer and a bit brighter. The suns out some days whilst its raining on others. With the weather changing, so has my makeup routine to suit it. I have found two different eye looks which I have been sporting recently.

maybelline color tattoo, maybelline color tattoo creamy beige, color tattoo, color tattoo creamy beige, makeup revolution flawless palette, makeup revolution flawless eyes like angels palette,

The first involves Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige (Leather Effect) which I bought a month ago and only used it once but I've recently vowed to use it more, so I've incorporated it into my daily makeup routine. I apply this all over the lid as this is such a nice base colour. I apply Smudge, from my Makeup Revolution 32 Eyeshadow Palette Flawless Eyes Like Angels, all over my lid as it's essentially the same colour as my natural skin colour, if only a bit darker. I put the colour Pure Chocolate, from the same palette, onto my crease and blend.

Soap and Glory's Lid Stuff Flawless Finish Eyeshadow in What's Nude, soap and glory lid stuff, soap and glory, soap and glory lid stuff what's nude, soap and glory what's nude

The second look involves this beautiful palette by Soap and Glory. I am not lying when I say the eyeshadows feel so butter because they are honestly sooo soft. Soap and Glory's Lid Stuff Flawless Finish Eyeshadow in What's Nude is such a versatile quad and one, I believe, everyone should own. I apply the colour Mudhoney all of my lid and pop either Pink T or Aubersheen in my crease!

Soap and Glory's One Heck Of A Blot *REVIEW*

s&g one heck of a blot, s&g one heck of a blot review, soap and glory one heck of a blot, soap and glory one heck of a blot review

Soap and Glory's One Heck Of A Blot is a super-transculent mattifying powder. I have combination but the majority of my skin is oily and needs to be touched up a lot otherwise it's like an oil slick (nice, I know!). I bought this item mostly because I always wanted to buy something from S&G.

s&g one heck of a blot, s&g one heck of a blot review, soap and glory one heck of a blot, soap and glory one heck of a blot review

The packaging is super gimmicky and has puns written all over it so it's fun to read. You get 9g worth of powder which is a bit less than my usual powder and it costs £12 which may seem expensive but it does last a long time. In the picture below I had been using it for 2 weeks but it yet to show any usage.

The powder is finely milled so even on my NW45 it doesn't lok cakey. I absolutely recommend this item as it does do what it says. My face doesn't get as oily as it used to i.e. after 2-3 hours. I used it in the morning and I don't have to touch up at all! This is literally a god-send and I'm so happy I got this product when I did.

I own an assortment of mascaras and thought I'd pick my top five ones which I recommend to you all!

Benefit They're Real is such an amazing mascara. The seperated bristles means that your lashes will become much longer but it doesn't do much for thickness. It volumises and curls your lashes and the curls stay all day.

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara is one of the oldest and best mascaras I owned. It finished recently and I had to throw it away unfortunately. It definitely does give a false lash effect as it thickens and lengthens your lashes. I'd go far as to say that this one is better than Benefit's They Real mascara!

Benefit's Roller Lash is one I got quite recently. I have a sample size which I got free with March's edition of ELLE magazine and reviewed it here. It thickens and lengthens your lashes to the point where they look almost fake. I might be tempted to buy the deluxe size soon!

L'Oreal Volume Milion Lashes is honestly so good at lengthening your lashes. The mascara does have a funny smell but I look past this as the mascara will be on my lashes so I can't really smell it once it's on. The packaging is super cute and I will be purchasing this soon as it ran out recently too.

Benefit's Bad Gal Lash is one I use for a natural look. They lengthen your lashes whilst making it look super natural. I have the sample size but I won't be buying the deluxe sized one as I don't think that £19.50 is worth it but nevertheless it does it's job really good.

The One | MAC Taupe Lipstick

mac taupe lipstick, mac taupe lipstick nc45, mac taupe lipstick dark skin, mac nude lipstick, mac lipstick, mac

I know I started off on a bad note on MAC lipsticks, hence my not-so-good review of their Rebel Lipstick (here), but this lipstick has totally converted me.

This was originally my sister's lipstick. She buys all nude lipsticks blindly but thankfully for her they suit her, until this one came along. She is a NC40 and MAC Taupe was wayy too dark for her and didn't suit her. I am around a NW35 I'd say and this lipstick suits my skin tone oh so good.

Now, I'm not one for nude lipsticks but this lipstick is the only nude lipstick that actually suits my skintone.

I'd say this is a slight-orange toned brown colour (perhaps this is why this works for me?). It is a matte colour yet feels super creamy on my lips for me. It does fade when I'm eating but it doesn't feel like anything is on my lips, as in it doesn't feel heavy or anything.

I did wear this for 4 days in a row which I super regret now. Even though this feels super creamy on my lips, this dried my lips out soo bad afterwards. The following weekend the corner of my lips were extremely dry and it hurt when I talk. They also bled so it was hard for me to eat. It has been two weeks since I have worn this and my lips are still dry as anything even though I have been applying Carmex everyday since.

The colour is beautiful but I still don't think the after effects are that amazing to be quite frank.

Top Drugstore Foundations

Today I thought I'd tell you my favourite drugstore foundations (in reality, I only own drugstore foundations). I explained in this post about choosing foundations, applications and primers.  Personally I prefer my foundations to last an average college day which is about 8 hours and I would want it to look skin-like and not make my face shiny.

The one I bought recently from these is Rimmel Match Perfection. This is super liquid-y and is so messy to use as I found out  when I sometimes spill it on myself. It has medium coverage but is easily buildable and evens out my skin tone. Using this I have found that my face doesn't become as oily as it used to.

Maybelline Fit Me is one I've been using for over a year now. It has medium coverage and gives a natural, dewy look. Having oily skin means that I do have to mattify with powder but I do that for all foundations. This lasts all day and is so easy to blend out. It does have SPF18 so my skin isn't damaged by the sun but this does mean, however, that you can get flashback in photos.

Max Factor Facefnity is one I bought mainly because my sister uses it and I really wanted to try it out. It claims to be a primer, concealer and foundation all in one. I still use a primer with this (as I do with all foundations) so I can't verify how long it lasts on it own but it does give high coverage that is not cakey and looks absolutely natural. It mattifies my face too which is a plus for me but does contain SPF20 which has its ups and downs.

MAC Isabel and Ruben Toledo Collection - Sin

I received this delivery yesterday and was so pleased that it came. MAC did a collection with Isabel and Ruben Toledo and this was one of the lipsticks in the collection!

I really didn't like the packaging online but in real life it looks so beautiful. It's so unique and the bullet itself is so gorgeous. It has a matte finish to it, unlike the normal bullets. I bought Sin which is a deep red with burgundy undertones. It's a matte finish so it does live upto its standards i.e. 4-5 hours. I didn't like the fact that it cost £17 as post and packagiang costs £2.95 so I paid nearly £20 for this, whereas a normal MAC lipstick costs £15.50. Nevertheless I'm happy with my purchase and am happy I bought it.
